Neuroscience students recognized for research at regional conference

2017 Aug 16

Ethan Ekstrand received an Award of Excellence for a research paper in Psychology at the 71st Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference (ECSC) held at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Ekstrand is among five John Carroll University students recognized for their manuscripts at the event (Spring 2017). The manuscripts and poster presentations are a culmination of an independent research project, which is a component of the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Concentration at John Carroll University. Under the mentorship of Dr. Helen M. Murphy (Psychology) and Dr. Cyrilla H. Wideman (Biology), John Carroll students have received awards at ECSC for 30 consecutive years.

Faculty judges from various universities and research institutions in the Eastern region of the
U.S. evaluated the student projects. More than 350 participants from approximately 25 colleges and universities were represented at the conference.

ECSC is an association of primarily undergraduate colleges and universities. The main function of the organization is to stimulate interest in undergraduate research in the sciences and related fields and to provide a lively forum for the presentation of research papers.
